Multi-Pitch Sport Climbing Course

This course is designed for climbers who want to start climbing equipped multi-pitch routes, gaining the technical skills and knowledge needed to move safely and confidently in this type of terrain. The training is structured to help participants reach the level required to climb as lead climbers, managing rope systems, belaying, and progression on multi-pitch routes.

Throughout the course, participants will work on a theoretical–practical basis, covering all the essential aspects of equipped multi-pitch climbing: from choosing a realistic objective and planning the climb, to the correct use of specific equipment, proper gear organization on the harness, essential knot work, the construction of safe belay anchors, and belaying and rope management techniques using single and double rope systems.

The course also explores key concepts of climbing physics, rappelling techniques, problem-solving in common situations, risk prevention, and risk management in the event of an accident. This course is aimed at climbers who are already comfortable climbing V+, and who want to take the next step toward longer, more complex, and more committed routes, always with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and sound decision-making.

Sunday: theoretical–practical session from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

WHERE IS IT HELD?

The Saturday and Sunday theoretical–practical sessions will take place at a rock climbing area in the Community of Madrid. The exact location will be confirmed before the course begins, depending on weather conditions and the profile of the group.

PVP = €175 per person

Each group is composed of a maximum of 4 participants. If the minimum number of 2 participants per day is not reached, the activity will be canceled, and the booked participants will be notified at least 3 days in advance.

The ratio will always be 1 instructor per 4 participants.

A spot is considered reserved once 100% of the activity fee has been paid.

Minimum recommended equipment per person:

Comfortable mountain clothing appropriate for the current temperature, hiking shoes or boots,

Sun hat, sunglasses,

Sunscreen and lip cream,

Water (at least 1.5 l),

Something to eat. We don't recommend too much of it, as experience tells us that after a heavy meal, what you want is a nap and not to climb again.

Course Objectives

The main objective of the course is to provide participants with the technical skills, practical knowledge, and sound judgment required to climb equipped multi-pitch routes safely and independently, taking on the role of lead climber.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Plan a realistic climbing objective, selecting suitable routes based on skill level, route length, weather conditions, and environmental factors.
  • Correctly interpret guidebooks and topos, and calculate time schedules for efficient time management on multi-pitch routes.
  • Understand and properly use essential and specific climbing equipment, organizing it efficiently on the harness for safe and fluid progression.
  • Tie and apply the fundamental climbing knots for tying in, anchoring, joining, self-locking, and belaying.
  • Understand the basic principles of physics applied to climbing, such as impact force and fall factor, and apply them to safety management.
  • Build safe belay anchors on fixed protection, applying criteria of strength, redundancy, and correct use of the personal anchor system.
  • Perform effective belaying techniques for both the leader and the second, including belaying one or two seconds.
  • Manage rope progression and placement using single, half, and twin rope systems.
  • Apply safety techniques and problem-solving strategies, including the construction of reliable and unreliable lower-offs and risk prevention.
  • Perform simple and multi-stage rappels safely and efficiently.
  • Identify the most common climbing accidents and correctly apply emergency response protocols (PAS).
