Hiking in La Cuerda Larga bajo la Luna llena

PVP
24 €

Possibly the most classic hiking route in the Sierra de Madrid. A majestic route that ascends to seven major peaks over two thousand meters high, including La Bola del Mundo, Las Cabezas de Hierro, and La Najarra. This route offers a privileged view of the Lozoya Valley on one side and the Upper Manzanares Basin Regional Park on the other.

The powerful influence of the Cuerda Larga constantly inspires hundreds of mountaineers who gaze at it from their homes in admiration, perhaps hoping to embark on their next Sunday's adventure. The Cuerda Larga is the group of peaks that aligns between two famous mountain passes, Navacerrada and Morcuera. It borders the Lozoya River valley to the north and the Upper Manzanares Basin Regional Park to the south. Nearly 20 km of ridgeline make up one of the most classic hiking trails in the Sierra de Guadarrama.

We'll begin our itinerary at the Navacerrada mountain pass at 1,860 m (6,000 ft), where we'll begin the steepest climb in the first few kilometers until we reach the Alto de Guarramillas ridge, better known as the Bola del Mundo (Ball of the World) at 2,262 m (7,000 ft). From there, we'll descend gently until we reach the Guarramillas pass (2,161 m) in 15 minutes. It is said that a few meters below this spot, Madrid's Manzanares River is born from the confluence of the Condesa stream from the Ventisquero de la Condesa and the Cuerno stream from Cerro de Valdemartín. From here, we'll ascend to the summit of Cerro de Valdemartín (2,279 m). From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Cuerda Larga mountain range, illuminated by the full moon. The Cabezas de Hierro peaks, the second and third highest peaks in the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range after Peñalara, come into view. After toeing them, we descend slightly to the Vaqueros pass, characterized by the rock of the same name located there. We continue along the ridge to reach Najarra (2,106 m). We can enjoy the "last" great view from this geodetic vertex. We descend to the Morcuera pass, where our route ends.
