Beyond Peñalara lies the famous Claveles cliff, with its gentle passage and beautiful access ridge. A very special spot for mountaineers in the central region, who always yearn for more places like this in the Guadarrama Mountains.
The ridge, outside the snowy season, is a succession of blocks hanging over the lagoons, requiring us to be very alert and alert while traversing it. In short, one of the best hiking trails we can take near Madrid and Segovia. A joy.

From Puerto de Cotos, we will ascend calmly along the Senda del Batallón Alpino (Alpine Battalion Path) to the Citores Pass. There, we will join the classic route to Peñalara, a summit we will reach without excessive complications.
Looking northeast, the panorama becomes more beguiling, as the mountain ridge narrows until we reach a narrow passage between boulders, which demands attention and dedication. We are at the famous Claveles Pass, and once we reach the peak itself, the route eases and we descend to Laguna de los Pájaros.
We continue through an environment of glacial basins to Laguna de Peñalara, from where it is only a short walk to Cotos to complete this great mountaineering classic in Guadarrama.
