Yurok Climbing School
At Yurok Climbing Center, we aim to encourage climbing among young children. We have well-maintained and certified facilities for safe climbing. Our team of specialized instructors are responsible for leading the classes and developing children into lovers of nature and climbing.
Why choose Yurok Climbing School?
At Yurok, our goal is to develop a progressive and comprehensive climbing sports program, aimed at children and young people from 4 to 16 years old.
The program is divided into three stages and seeks to promote the development of children and young people through different areas of sport, encompassing a process that extends from the initial stages of the sport to the development of sports skills.
General description of each group:
Group 1: Ages 4 to 6: Initial stage of the sport. General aspects of the sport are developed. Play is used as a fundamental methodological tool. The main objective is to stimulate and explore all aspects of climbing, such as coordination, balance, motor skills, spatial orientation, laterality, social and emotional aspects, self-care, and safety, among others. The program considers recognizing the characteristics and physical and emotional development of the participating children, in order to respect their timing and abilities.
Group 2: Ages 6 to 10: Transition stage. At these ages, aspects derived from the previous group are developed and are now at a more advanced stage of development. More specific technical content is gradually incorporated, with the aim of reinforcing aspects of personal safety and self-care. The session will progressively incorporate training aspects, but close attention will be paid to the evaluation and individual abilities of the children. At this stage, participation in climbing tournaments or climbing events is evaluated, but on an exploratory basis.
Group 3: Ages 10 to 16: This stage is more oriented toward the technical and specific development of climbing, without forgetting that overall, this is a training program that also seeks to establish climbing as a comprehensive sport in every possible way. Participation in sport climbing tournaments and competitions is evaluated, as appropriate.
General Proposal:
Yurok Climbing's proposal offers a sports and training program starting at age 4. This proposal is developed annually, as only consistency and careful process allow for comprehensive athletic development.
Family participation is also a fundamental aspect to consider, as it provides the greatest support a child or young person receives during the life process they are going through.
General Objectives of the Program:
To develop a sports and training program through sport climbing that promotes the physical, social, and emotional growth of children and young people.
Promote personal and social growth in a safe and collaborative environment that fosters a sense of competence and personal safety.
Benefit from climbing as a learning activity in all its aspects, from the initial development of the sport to the development of autonomy within it.
Stimulate and develop a sense of care for the environment, respect for others, and solidarity through the practice of sport climbing.
General objectives of each group:
GROUP 1: Ages 4 to 6:
The fundamental objective of this group is:
Develop movement skills and abilities through play and fun and challenging physical activity. Gradually allowing the incorporation of these types of activities into daily routines.
Develop agility, balance, coordination, and speed. Provide each child with a solid foundation of movement and risk management skills, which can later be used in sport climbing.
Stimulate body literacy through various activities.
GROUP 2: Ages 6 to 10:
The objectives of this stage are:
Practice and master fundamental motor skills and patterns.
Develop fundamental sports skills, integrating a variety of movements into sports situations.
Continue developing body literacy through a wide variety of sports activities and experiences.
Above all, provide FUN in activities, games, and learning experiences that allow them to build competence in motor skills, movement, and self-confidence and confidence in the group.
GROUP 3: Ages 10 to 16:
The objectives of this stage are:
Improve agility, balance, coordination, and strength and speed skills. Develop general athletic skills.
Refine movement and basic athletic skills through initial participation in structured and planned sports. Continue developing a "climbing vocabulary."
Although they will likely practice other sports, we should encourage contact and practice with different sports activities to stimulate the comprehensive development of their individual and social-emotional abilities.
At this stage, participation in high-level competition is not yet considered, as they are not yet ready for high-intensity training.
Activities should be fun and adapted to the children's developmental stage and abilities.
If you would like to learn more about our training program, please do not hesitate to call or write to us. Most importantly, no prior climbing knowledge is required.
